Maui Fringe Festival

Maui OnStage and Surf Rents Trucks presents the Maui Fringe Theater Festival 2019, a weekend marathon of the performing arts, January 18 through 20 at the Historic Iao Theater.

Performing at this year’s Fringe is first place-winner of the 2015 festival, Randy Noojin who returns with “Seeger,” a multi-media solo show with the music of Pete Seeger, written and performed by Noojin. Also returning to Maui, New York’s Kate Robards, first place-winner of the 2017 Maui Fringe, brings “PolySHAMory,” her award-winning new solo play about his and hers, and hers and his, and sex, and therapy, and love. From San Francisco, winner of the best performance award at the 2017 Maui Fringe, Malcolm Grissom returns with “Stop Having Zombie Sex,” the sequel to 2017’s “Me, My Song, and I.” In his latest comedy-drama solo show Grissom explores love, intimacy, sex and monsters. Local playwright Wayne Moniz will present the world premier of his latest play, “Cane Fire: The Hanapepe Massacre.” This historical tragedy chronicles the sugar mill strike of 500 Filipino workers who went on strike for a raise of $2 a day in 1924 on Kauai. Maui’s ON STAGE dancers will also present dance revue showcase featuring a variety of original pieces designed by local choreographers.

Tickets are $15 per show. The Maui Fringe Theater Festival contains adult content and some shows may not appropriate for children.
