With spring in full swing, Doris Duke Theatre's exciting May schedule give guests the chance to immerse themselves in food, culture and the environment.
The theater screens the HIFF local hit Ottomaticake, about Kaimuki cheesecake maker Otto (who used to work at the museum's café!). Director Gemma Cubero Del Barrio is an adjunct professor at Windward Community College and longtime friend of Otto. She captures his generous spirit as well as contemporary Honolulu.
For all the foodies out there, the theater screens the Japanese documentary Ramen Heads, which dives deep into the flavorful and intricate world of top ramen chef Osamu Tomita. In addition, the film provides five other notable ramen shops and the delicious history of the dish.
As Honolulu's last true art house, the Doris Duke Theatre is the place to see films that are internationally acclaimed, but don't get wide release. The museum screens You Were Never Really Here—the film that earned Joaquin Phoenix the best actor award at Cannes last year.
