Chamber Music Hawaii ends the season in fine style with a stunning evening recreating the magical era of the silent movies - or in this case, not so silent - as classic comedies featuring Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd are accompanied by Chamber Music Hawaii musicians playing the music of the orginal scores.
Conductor Rick Benjamin returns to Hawaii, once again recreating the syncopated sounds of the 1920s. Benjamin, founder and conductor of the world-renowned Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, is the country's leading exponent of "America's Original Music" - the vibrant toe-tapping sounds of the silent movie era and early Broadway.
May's concert will feature silent movie masterpieces starring Charlie Chaplin (Easy Street, 1916), Buster Keaton (The Playhouse, 1921), and Harold Lloyd (Never Weaken, 1920), shown on Orvis Auditorium's silver screen to the live accompaniement of the original musical scores. Unique to this performancfe will be Hawaiian music of the 1920s played as incidental music between the films.
