Iolani Palace

Step back in time and explore this royal residence and living restoration of Hawaiʻi's history. As the only official royal residence in the United States, Iolani Palace is a meticulously restored National Historic Landmark situated in downtown Honolulu and once belonged to King Kalākaua and Queen Liliʻuokalani.

Iolani Palace is a regal display of Hawaiʻi’s history and culture, serving as a reminder of the lives lived during the monarchy period. When King Kalākaua and eventually Queen Liliʻuokalani ruled the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, the Palace served as the entertainment site for balls, dinners, and other festivities hosted for guests from around the world. The restored Palace represents this thriving time in Hawaiʻi’s history, with its multiple rooms showcasing the styles, tastes and preferences of the monarchy.

The first floor public rooms include the Grand Hall, State Dining Room, Blue Room and Throne Room. Meanwhile, the second floor consists of the King’s and Queen’s suites, Music Room, and Imprisonment Room, where Queen Liliʻuokalani was detained following the overthrow.

Iolani Palace is open from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Mon. – Sat. For tickets, visit the Barracks situated next to the Palace from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Mon. – Sat.
