Spam is a salty canned pork product made by Hormel Foods. Introduced in 1937 gained popularity after World War II when the luncheon meat was served to GIs. By the end of the war, SPAM products were adopted into local Hawaiian culture, with Fried SPAM and sticky rice becoming a popular go-to meal! Today you’ll find SPAM® dishes served everywhere from convenience stores to restaurants, reflecting a demand that is unmatched by any place in the world. Most people think of it as a staple canned food to use when camping, but in Hawaii we eat it with eggs, put it in saimin, mix it in mac and cheese and of course our iconic snack – SPAM Musubi! It is made with Japanese sticky rice, spam fried in a sweet teriyaki sauce and wrapped in roasted seaweed (nori) that fits perfectly in your hand! HAWAII LOVES SPAM!
The Waikiki Spam Jam Festival will have 20 SPAM food tents, 3 entertainment stages featuring Hawaii’s top artists, hula halau and more! After a three year hiatus Waikiki Spam Jam’s signature food festival will be on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki. Check out SPAM® logo items and accessories on sale at the festival and the collectable custom designed 2023 Waikiki SPAM JAM® T-Shirt. There will be appearances by SPAMMY™ characters and friends for photo ops!
Can to Table Restaurant Week – Sunday, April 30 to Sunday, May 14
Dine-In/Dine Out restaurants and local eateries across Waikiki shopping centers, hotels and restaurants will have special menu items incorporating SPAM® in at least one delicious dish offered only during these two weeks.
