The Kauai Poke Festival is named top-5 food festivals in America by USA Today’s 10 Best in 2023!
The definition of Poke means to “cut into pieces.” The most common raw fish used in poke are Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna), Marlin, Aku (Skipjack Tuna), Hamachi (Yellowtail), Salmon, Taco (Octopus) are used. The basic poke recipe has shoyu (soy sauce), sesame oil, green onions and seaweed. The umami or savory marinade is what makes the poke dish! Then there are variations that can include: sriracha, mayonnaise, sweet onion, imitation crab, avocado, etc. The beauty of today’s poke recipes is that you are only limited by your own imagination! If you love Poke then this festival is a must attend event on Kauai!
Famous Chef Sam Choy who is a James Beard Foundation’s America’s Classics winner and one of Hawaii’s most famous chef that knows his POKE! Joining him are acclaimed chefs Aarón Sánchez and Ronnie Rainwater along with 20 other professional and amateur chefs who will be creating fabulous dishes with more than 500 pounds of fresh sashimi grade ahi poke! Two winners will be selected from each category 1) Crowd Favorite 2) Judge’s Choice & Overall Winner. Poke will be judged on presentation, originality and taste. There will be poke demonstrations, unbelievable entertainment, and all the poke you can eat!
This is a 21 and over event. Printed or digital tickets will be accepted at the door. Tickets may be purchased at kauaipokefest.com
