As the vanguard forum of international cinematic achievement in the Asia-Pacific region, Hawai‘i International Film Festival (HIFF) recognizes new and emerging talent creating original stories and collaborations through the cinema arts.
HIFF began as a project via the East-West Center of the University of Hawai’i Manoa campus. Jeannette Paulson Hereniko was HIFF’s Founding Director in 1981 started with HIFF with seven films from six countries and an audience of 5,000. Through the years HIFF has become a huge event with over 50,000 film enthusiasts from around the state of Hawai’i, the US and throughout the world.
The diverse multi-cultural stories told through these films have helped to enlighten fans and bring new perspectives to audiences totaling 1.4 million viewers from all over the world.
