All things Kimchi at this inaugural event along with a special concert with guests from Korea!
Hawaii’s largest celebration of Kimchi is happening on November 4th at Makiki District Park Field. Enjoy a day with kimchi food booths, tasting, demonstrations and more. The event will feature a special concert. This is the first Kimchi Day Festival and it is commemorating the establishment of Kimchi Day by the State of Hawaii, as well as the 120th Anniversary of Korean immigration to Hawaii.
The Kimchi Day Festival will host a special concert with guests from Korea from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The I-Sinfonietta is a string orchestra from Incheon, Korea that are dedicated to sharing the beauty of classical music with love and joy.
There will be a variety of food vendors serving up Kimchi dishes including fried rice, loco moco, Korean pancake, mandoo, stew, kim bap and more! Many restaurants will serving unique Kimchi dishes that cannot be found in Hawaii.
For those looking to purchase kimchi, there will be four different types sold at the festival. The event will also feature a kimchi sampling tent.
There will be two contests with a $1,000 cash grand prize for each contest! The first contest is a Korean Traditional Dress and will be part of a fashion show. There are three categories – individual, group and family. The second is a talent contest with two categories – individual and group. Contestants can perform any talent from singing to dancing. Stage entertainment also includes two kimchi demonstrations, so you can learn how to make the famous Korean dish.
While you are at the festival, visit pottery exhibits on the third floor of the Cultural Community Center at Makiki District Park.
