As part of the 34th annual International Coastal Cleanup Day, Kauai Beach Resort is partnering with the Surfrider Foundation Kauaʻi and the B-Rad Foundation to clean up Nukoliʻi Beach on Saturday, September 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. More than 30 years ago, Ocean Conservancy began the first International Coastal Cleanup when communities rallied together with the common goal of collecting and documenting the trash along their coastlines.
The beach cleanup will begin with an “Aloha & Be Well” yoga class from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. conducted by Alexandria B. Cordero, founder and CEO of Samsati Yoga.
Community volunteers, employees and guests will record each item collected on a data card to get a better understanding of the effect the marine trash is having on the local ocean environment, wildlife, and ecosystem. This data collection process helps identify ways to eliminate ocean debris in the future.
Kauai Beach Resort will open access to Nukoliʻi Beach for easy removal of beach trash and will provide box lunches for the volunteers.
Volunteers that are interested in participating in the Nukoliʻi Beach cleanup at Kauai Beach Resort can contact Barbara Wiedner at (808) 635-2593 or Bwiednerrealtor@aol.com. The Surfrider Foundation Kauaʻi will provide gloves, debris bags, and water. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes with good treads, a hat, long pants or shorts, and bring a reusable water bottle and reef-safe sunscreen.
