Make time to browse the amazing art and photography at Waimea Blue Gallery. Owner Akima Kai wants you to “feel the raw and wild power of the Earth” when you enter the studio. In addition to collections from several local artists, you’ll peruse Kai’s own nature photography, much of it shot in local waters while free diving.
Waimea Blue has a stunning collection of surfboards that ride walls instead of waves. Made from individually selected pieces of local, exotic wood, each work is hand-shaped and sanded. Layers of resins are then applied to create one-of-a-kind Hawaiian art treasures. “We have surfboards as small as 21 inches high and as large as five and a half feet,” says Kai.
