Nuuanu Pali State Wayside

Nuuanu Pali is also one of the most remembered battle sites in Hawaii history that tells of the army under Oahu's ruler, Kalanikupule, that was driven back into Nuuanu Valley by Kamehameha's forces in 1795. Trapped at the pali (cliff), the warriors who could not escape along the ridges or down the cliff trail were driven over the 1,000-foot cliff. This victory over Oahu established Kamehameha as a great warrior and effectively brought Hawaii under one rule. In 1932, the old Pali road was built, which still exists to the right of the lookout. Parking fee is $3 per vehicle.
