More than 500 volunteers gather data from the shores of Oahu, Kauai and Hawai‘i islands during three Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Ocean Counts. They are in January, February and March when the whales are wintering in Hawaiian waters.  Ocean Count serves to promote public awareness about humpback whales, the sanctuary and shore-based whale watching opportunities.
