Kauai's Best Beaches

Cheryl Lee • March 23, 2025

Kaua'i is known for their steep cliffs, canyons and tropical rainforests. The island has over 50 miles of picturesque white sand beaches.

With its lush landscapes, emerald mountains, and stunning coastline, Kauaʻi is often referred to as the Garden Isle—and its beaches are every bit as enchanting as its nickname suggests. Whether you're seeking a serene stretch of sand for quiet reflection, a family-friendly beach with calm waters, or an adventurous shoreline perfect for snorkeling or surfing, Kauaʻi delivers an unforgettable beach experience for every kind of traveler.

From the golden sands of Poʻipū Beach on the sunny south shore to the dramatic, secluded beauty of Polihale on the west side, each beach offers its own unique charm and vibe. Hanalei Bay, framed by misty mountains and cascading waterfalls, is a picture-perfect destination for swimming, paddleboarding, and soaking in the laid-back North Shore spirit. On the east coast, Lydgate Beach Park stands out as a great choice for families, thanks to its protected swimming areas and picnic-ready facilities.

Kauaʻi’s beaches aren’t just scenic—they’re alive with Hawaiian culture and natural beauty. Spend time watching green sea turtles basking on the shore, witness humpback whales breaching offshore during winter months, or explore tidepools teeming with life. Whether you're here for adventure, relaxation, or a little bit of both, you'll find the perfect beach to match your mood.

In this guide, we’ll highlight some of the best beaches on Kauaʻi to help you plan your ultimate island getaway. So grab your reef-safe sunscreen and let’s explore the shores of paradise!

PO‘IPŪ BEACH PARK

Considered one of America’s “Best Beaches” according to the Travel Channel, is located on Kaua‘i’s south shore. Great conditions for snorkeling and scuba diving.  Photo: adobe stock

ANAHOLA BEACH PARK

Located in a small residential area, Anahola is good for swimming and has picnic tables, cold showers, a comfort station and camp ground.

SALT POND BEACH PARK

This west side beach got its name from the folks who still use the beach’s salt ponds to make Hawaiian salt. A partially protected reef provide good swimming conditions year-round, tidepools and sunset views.  Photo: Adobe Stock

LYDGATE STATE PARK

Once a place of refuge in ancient Hawai‘i, it’s now a good place for picnickers. Excellent swimming area for kids, picnic area and a community playground in the Līhu‘e/Kalapaki region.
